(6)7.1.22 Impersonating a First Responder
A person is guilty of Impersonating a First Responder under this subsection if he or she willfully:
(a) falsely represents themselves as a law enforcement officer, firefighter, emergency medical technician, paramedic, or other first responder; and
(b) uses such false representation to gain access to property, information, or resources; to induce action or inaction by another person; or to commit, facilitate, or attempt to commit any crime; or
(c) wears, displays, or otherwise employs any uniform, badge, insignia, identification, or equipment that reasonably suggests that the person is a first responder when no lawful authority exists to do so.
(d) This subsection shall not apply to:
- lawful training, educational, or theatrical activities where no intent exists to commit a crime or cause harm;
- licensed or authorized personnel acting within the scope of their lawful duties.
Impersonating a First Responder is a Class C Felony.
