(7)6.2.2 Maritime Collision Duty to Report

(a) Reporting Requirement.
Any operator of a vessel who is involved in a collision on navigable waters that results in:
- bodily injury or death, or
- property damage of any amount or value,
shall immediately stop their vessel at the scene and report the collision to the appropriate maritime authority or law enforcement agency.
(b) Information to Provide.
The operator must provide the following information when reporting:
- name, address, and identification or vessel registration;
- description of the collision circumstances, including vessel type and cargo if applicable;
- identities or descriptions of other vessels or persons involved; and
- any observed injuries or hazards.
(c) Duty to Remain at Scene.
The operator must remain at the scene until:
- authorized to depart by a maritime authority or law enforcement officer, or
- exchange of the required information with all other involved parties is completed.
(d) Exceptions.
This subsection does not require reporting if:
- the operator leaves a conspicuous notice with contact information in the event of a collision involving only unattended property, or
- exigent circumstances exist that require the operator to seek immediate assistance for safety or environmental reasons.
(e) Penalties.
Violation of the reporting requirements of this subsection constitutes a Level 5 Infraction.
