(7)4.1.12 Exhaust

A driver shall not operate a motor vehicle on a public roadway unless the vehicle’s exhaust system is fully functional and complies with law. Exhaust requirements include:
(a) The vehicle shall have a properly installed muffler and exhaust system that prevents excessive noise and directs exhaust away from occupants.
(b) The exhaust system shall be free from leaks, damage, or modifications that increase emissions or noise beyond legal limits.
(c) Drivers shall maintain the exhaust system in safe working condition at all times while operating the vehicle.
Violation of this subsection is a Level 1 Infraction.
