View source for (7)11.3 Responsibility at a Stop Sign

Any [[(7)1.1_Definitions#(7)1.1.3_Driver|driver]] operating a [[(7)1.1_Definitions#(7)1.1.1_Motor_Vehicle|motor vehicle]] on a [[(7)1.1_Definitions#(7)1.1.13_Public_Roadway|public roadway]] who encounters a [[(7)1.1_Definitions#(7)1.1.50_Stop_Sign|stop sign]] shall:

(a) Come to a full and complete stop before any part of the vehicle crosses:

# Any painted stop line or demarcation line indicating where vehicles must stop; or
# The entrance to the [[(7)1.1_Definitions#(7)1.1.27_Intersection|intersection]] if no stop line is present.

(b) After stopping, [[(7)1.1_Definitions#(7)1.1.17_Yield|yield]] the [[(7)1.1_Definitions#(7)1.1.16_Right_of_Way|right of way]] to any other driver, pedestrian, or bicyclist lawfully within or approaching the intersection, proceeding only when it is safe to do so.

Failure to comply with subsection (a) of this section is a <b>Level 3 Infraction</b>.

Failure to comply with subsection (b) of this section is a <b>Level 2 Infraction</b>.
